University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Nursing Associate Professor and Co-Coordinator of the Emergency Nurse Practitioner Subspecialty David House, DNP, CRNP, ENP-C, FNP-BC, CNS, CEN, CNE, FAEN, FAANP, has been selected for the American Association of Nurse Practitioners Executive Leadership Program. House is one of 22 nurse practitioners accepted into the cohort from across the country. The AANP Executive Leadership Program reinforces and develops the professional attributes essential for effective leadership.
"The main goal that attracted me to the executive leadership program is the ability to learn the skills of leading self, leading people, managing thinking and applying knowledge to create systematic change to improve patient and business outcomes at the organizational level,” House said.
The curriculum for the in-person and online classes incorporates ongoing coaching with experts who will equip participants to serve as leaders across diverse settings to transform health and health care.
"As leaders, it should be our mission and vision to lead efforts to increase access to health care for all populations,” House said. “This is in alignment with the School’s vision and mission—to be innovative leaders transforming health to shape patient-centered, equitable health care in Alabama and beyond."
House serves as Board Chair on the Board of Directors for the American Academy of Emergency Nurse Practitioners and is a founding member of the organization. He has more than 23 years of experience in administrative and clinical roles and has practiced as an Emergency Nurse Practitioner for more than 14 years. He has served as AAENP’s Lead Regional Director since 2019 and Bylaws Committee Chair for two years and served as co-author of the 2021 ENP Competencies.
House is a Scholar with the UAB Center for Interprofessional Education and Simulation and a Fellow of the 2019-2020 UAB Interprofessional Leadership program.
