University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Nursing Associate Professor and Assistant Dean for Graduate Clinical Education Aimee Holland, DNP, CRNP, WHNP-BC, NP-C, FAANP, has been recognized for Innovation in Health Care by the Vanderbilt School of Nursing.
The award honors alumni whose nursing experience creates tools that solve health care issues.
Holland is recognized for her clinical practice expertise and desire to increase access to specialty care for women. Through her doctoral work, she has utilized simulation to create one of the first gynecology skills workshops for primary care nurse practitioners. Through the workshop, Holland has taught specialized women’s health procedural skills to more than 3,000 nurse practitioners, physician assistants, midwives and physicians across the United States, thereby increasing health care access for thousands of women.
“As a National Health Service Corps (NHSC) clinician, I saw first-hand numerous unmet healthcare needs of women in rural and underserved areas, including reduced access to providers with specialty training. I realized that primary care nurse practitioners (NPs) could bridge this gap with added clinical practice skills.”
Holland earned her Master of Science in Nursing in Registered Nursing from Vanderbilt University in 2002. She earned a post-master’s certificate from UAB in 2009 and her Doctor of Nursing Practice degree from the UAB School of Nursing in 2012.
