Alumna recognized for leadership
University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Nursing alumna Nancy Turnham, DNP, FNP, NP-C, who earned her Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree from the School in 2009, has been named the American Association of Nurse Practitioners 2017 Advocate State Award for Excellence recipient for Alabama.
The Advocate State Award for Excellence goes to an individual who makes a significant contribution to increasing awareness and recognition of nurse practitioners.
Turnham is currently an assistant professor of Family Nurse Practitioner/DNP studies at the University of South Alabama College of Nursing in Mobile, Alabama.
“I have always striven to set an example and be an advocate for nurse practitioners and the nursing profession as a whole,” Turnham said. “To have my peers and the American Association of Nurse Practitioners as a whole recognize my efforts is humbling and very gratifying.”
Turnham was honored at the AANP 2017 National Conference in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on June 23. AANP is the nation’s largest professional organization for nurse practitioners of all specialties, with a membership of more than 222,000.
