Wilson setting national standards in health information technology
Wilson has joined the Standards Committee of MedBiquitous, an American National Standards Institute-accredited developer of information technology for health care education and competence assessment. She also serves on the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI) Health IT Committee and its Risk Management for Health IT working group.
She represents the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) on the MedBiquitous committee and the American Association of Nurses (ANA) and Alliance for Nursing Informatics (ANI) on the AAMI panels.
Wilson is the voice of one of only two nursing-specific organizations among the more than 40 that comprise the Standards Committee of MedBiquitous, whose mission is to develop and promote technology standards for health professions that advance lifelong learning, continuous improvement and better patient outcomes.
MedBiquitous’ goals are to track learning and certification achievement, use data to drive improvement and bring competency data together. The charge of the Standards Committee is to develop technical specifications and harmonized language and enable data exchange and interoperability for and between healthcare professions.
AAMI is a nonprofit organization founded in 1967 that unites nearly 7,000 professionals in the development, management and use of safe and effective health care technology.
One main task of the Risk Management Working Group is drafting AAMI HIT 1000, Risk Management Practices for Health IT, an AAMI initiative to create American National Standards for health-service provider organizations and vendors that develop, implement or use health information technology software and systems. Its other main task is to review the status of proposals to develop standards or guidelines on Health IT usability design and processes.
