UAB is a destination for academically talented students, and we love to reward your hard work. We recognize National Merit Finalists, National Recognition Program Scholars, Cambridge AICE and International Baccalaureate Candidates and Diploma Holders with various scholarships that are stackable on university admissions merit scholarships. Please note students are only eligible to receive ONE of the below and will be given the one at the highest amount:
- National Merit Finalists: $4,000 per academic year
- National Recognition Program Scholar: $2,500 per year
- IB or Cambridge AICE Diploma Holder: $2,500 per year
- IB or Cambridge AICE Diploma Candidate: $1,000 per year
Once you’ve been admitted to UAB, simply do the following to claim your scholarship:
National Merit Finalists: Name UAB your first choice with the National Merit Scholarship Corporation; the paperwork for this should be included with your finalist letter. They’ll then send us your name, and we will award your scholarship. (NMSC sends rosters to UAB on a rolling basis, beginning in early March.)
National Recognition Program Scholars: Submit your application in BSMART. Be sure to complete the "National Scholarship Questions" section for your recognition program award and upload your notification letter and certificate with your application.
IB/AICE Candidates: Submit your application in BSMART. Be sure to complete the "National Scholarship Questions" section for IB/AICE Candidates and submit a letter from your IB or Cambridge AICE Coordinator, confirming your candidacy for the Diploma as part of this application.
IB/AICE Diploma Holders: Once IB/AICE results are released in July/August, UAB will obtain a roster of students who were awarded the diploma. If you originally applied for the Candidate award in BSMART and receive the diploma, we will automatically update you - no action is required by the student to be moved from Candidate to Diploma Holder.
