Question everything. Except whether to be an honors student at UAB. You’re smart. And one reason you’re smart is because you’re not afraid to ask questions. But there’s really no question about whether you should pursue the many honors and awards available here at UAB. From the Honors College to scholars' programs to fellowships and more, we have all sorts of educational, career, and other opportunities for you. In other words, it’s a good idea. So—any questions?

UAB Honors College

At the Honors College, we want you to become, well, you. Here's how we make that happen: First, you do your part—that is, be your driven, bold, and exceptional self. Then we’ll add the engaging courses, the customized curriculum, the community of other inquiring minds, and the faculty who know your name in addition to your dreams and passions. The result? A confident, accomplished you.

Admission to the Honors College

To join the UAB Honors College, you must be admitted to UAB and have at least a 3.5 GPA and a 28 ACT or 1310 SAT score. If this is you, we’ll automatically set you up with a personalized pathway, and you can choose to apply to a specialized program. If you’re a bit short of the GPA and ACT/SAT requirement, you can still apply at uab.edu/honors.

Personalized Pathway

Everybody’s different. So we’re going to set you up with an honors advisor who can help you turn your interests and talents into goals. How? By tailoring a pathway just for you. With more than 30 honors courses per semester to choose from, we’re going to help you craft a curriculum that will take you places you never imagined.

Global and Community Leadership Honors Program

This community isn’t just local—it’s worldwide. When you join the Global and Community Leadership Honors Program (GCL), your responsibilities to work for social justice have an international reach. GCL prepares you to explore, understand, and lead in promoting positive social change while fostering connections all over the world.

You can also take advantage of competitive opportunities such as Chemistry Scholars, which pairs you with a faculty mentor, or the Phage Explorations Program, a biology research program for freshmen. Talk to your academic advisor about scholars' programs for your major.

National and International Fellowships and Scholarships

We can help you apply for prestigious national and international scholarships and fellowships. Our students have won awards such as Rhodes, Fulbright, Goldwater, Clinton, and Critical Language Scholarships, among others. Maybe you’ll do the same.
