Dual Enrollment
Apply for dual enrollment/dual credit to take courses as a non-degree student at UAB while you are enrolled as a high school junior or senior. Apply credit earned at UAB toward college requirements and your high school diploma.
Dual enrollment is available to students attending high schools that have a partnership with UAB.
Dual enrollment students may register for up to six credit hours per semester.
Getting Started
Your first step is meeting with your high school guidance counselor to discuss eligibility. With their support, you can apply for admission to UAB’s Dual Enrollment program.
- In this program, you will be taking college-level coursework at UAB. Deadlines, grades, and professional communication are very important. Please make sure that you have the time, energy, and resources necessary to complete courses successfully.
- The courses you take and the grades you earn as a dual enrollment student at UAB will become part of your academic history. When you apply to college, you will have to report your attendance and these grades will be considered as part of your college GPA.

- A minimum high school GPA of 3.0 is required for admission

- High School Transcript
- Test Scores or Placement Assessments are required for some courses

*Applications submitted after the deadline will be considered on a space-available basis. You are encouraged to apply as early as possible to ensure ample time to review your application and render an admission decision.

- Tuition fees are based on whether you are an Alabama resident and if you are taking courses online or on campus.
Courses
- All courses taken by high school students must be approved by their high school counselor.
- Students are responsible for confirming their high school’s dual enrollment policy with their high school counselor. The student’s high school is responsible for determining how credit is awarded and applied to high school graduation requirements.
- Dual and concurrently enrolled students can take a maximum of six credit hours per semester

Parents and Legal Guardians
- Verify your student’s readiness for college-level coursework. Make sure your student knows that dual enrollment grades become a part of their permanent, college-level academic history.
- Communicate with your student’s high school counselor to discuss their dual enrollment policies and procedures.
- Be aware of important dates and deadlines by bookmarking the UAB Academic Calendar.
- Account balances will be posted online to your student's BlazerNET Student Profile Page. Paper bills will not be sent to the student.
- Discuss the Parent/Guest Authorization option with your student. This will allow you to view your student's registration, account balance, grades, and UAB GPA. Information about this authorization can be found by visiting UAB Parent/Guest Authorization.

How do I take Course Placement Assessments?
Some courses require you to take a placement test before you can register. Math and English placement are based on a variety of factors. These tests are designed to measure your mastery of a particular subject. Additional information can be found here.

How do I check my UAB email?
You can access your UAB email by logging into your Student Profile page on BlazerNET. You will see an email icon on the right side of the screen. Click that to access your UAB emails.

You will use Canvas to access your online classes. You can access Canvas through your BlazerNET Student Profile page, by clicking the Canvas icon on the right side of the screen.

Do I need a UAB One Card?
If you are only taking courses online, you are not required to have a One Card. If you are taking courses on-campus, you may need a One Card for testing or other purposes. You can get your One Card at the One Stop Student Services Office in the Hill Student Center.

How do I view my UAB transcript?
You can view your UAB transcript by logging into your BlazerNET Student Profile page and clicking “View Transcript” in the bottom, center of the screen.

How do I update my preferred name and pronoun?
Log in to your BlazerNET Student Profile page. Under your name, you should see two green links. The first link lists your current preferred name. Click that, and you can make edits. Note that your preferred name will appear on course rosters and final grade reports, but your legal name will continue to appear where required by university business or legal need. You may also specify your chosen pronoun on this page. Your pronoun will be available to instructors and academic advisors. You are not required to enter a preferred name or a preferred pronoun.

Do I need a UAB parking permit?
If you are only taking courses online, you do not need a UAB parking permit. If you are taking an on-campus course, you may need a permit.

How do I see what textbooks I will need?
To see which books you will need, log in to BlazerNET and click “Registration”. Under the green banner, click “Order Textbooks”. This should pull up your specific book list for the courses you are registered to take. If not, you can fill in the course information. Note that if you check too far in advance of the semester starting, some instructors may not have selected their books yet. If you don’t see any books listed for the course, check back in at a later date.
UAB First Day: The UAB Bookstore’s First Day program allows students to automatically receive access to digital course materials on or before the first day of class within Canvas. Charges for First Day course material are billed directly to your student account, so it’s convenient and affordable – with significant savings. Students have the ability to opt-out of the program if desired.

How do I allow my parents access to my UAB registration and account information?
Visit this site for information about the Parent/Guest Authorization. Granting this access allows your parent or guest to view information including: account charges and balance, estimated future charges, academic history, grade point average, courses taken, and current registration. Students choose who can have this access and students set up the password for the approved guest(s).
