Join us at the Alabama Vaccine Research Clinic at UAB! We are looking for volunteers to join a Phase 1 clinical trial to test the safety and immune response of a new HIV vaccine. The study is for adults who are HIV-negative, in good health, and aged 18 to 55. Procedures will include blood draws and injections of the study vaccine, as well as the collection of white blood cells through a procedure called leukapheresis. Do you identify as an individual living with cancer and part of the LGBTQIA+ community or a care partner of someone in this community? A research lab at the University of Alabama at Birmingham is looking to learn about the day-to-day experiences of LGBTQIA+ cancer survivors and their care partners. We are interested in how individuals manage difficult situations related to their respective roles in their relationships. Individuals living with cancer often encounter stressful situations that can impact their mood and any additional stressors from living as a sexual or gender minority with a lack of resources adds an increased risk of experiencing stressful situations. The goal of this work is to develop resources that better support the well-being of LGBTQIA+ individuals living with cancer and their care partners. We are looking for people who identify as trans or cisgender, are 18-65 years of age and would like to take part in a research study examining the impact of gender identity, hormone levels and sex assigned at birth to pain sensitivity and immune cell activity. The commitment to this study will last approximately 3 hours where you will fill out questionnaires, have a single blood draw and take part in pain sensitivity testing. Participants must: Be free from certain health conditions (HIX+, cardiovascular disease, uncontrolled hypertension). Participants can be on HRT (hormone replacement therapy) or not.
