Clinical psychologist who specializes in children with developmental disabilities related to cognitive and communication development. Dr. Fred J. Biasini, is Director of Interdisciplinary Training at Sparks Clinics and Director of the UAB Early Head Start Program. He has worked in the field of developmental disabilities since 1975. Dr. Biasini received his B.A. degree from St. Vincent College (1973), his M.A. from St. Francis College (1976), and his Ph.D. in Applied Psychology, with an emphasis on developmental disabilities, from the University of Alabama (1984). He is an Associate Professor at UAB and teaches courses in developmental psychology and developmental disabilities. In addition, Dr. Biasini has published articles related to cognitive and communication development in young children with disabilities. He has been with the Newborn Follow Up Clinic since 1981.

Primary Role/Patient Populations: Outpatient evaluation of school-age children experiencing academic, behavioral, or emotional difficulties, evaluation of preschool to school-age children with suspected developmental delays, and developmental evaluation of children (aged 18 months to 3 years) born pre-term with extremely low birth weight.

Registered Dietician who specializes in special needs and high risk children regarding their nutrition. Harriet received her Bachelor’s Degree from Kansas State University and went on to receive her Master’s in Nutrition at University of Alabama. She has been with the Newborn Follow Up Clinic since its inception in 1977. Harriet currently splits her time between the Newborn Follow Up Clinic and various Early Intervention Programs including: Service Guild, the Bell Center, Alabama Institute of the Deaf and Blind, Shelby County Association of Retarded Children, as well as Brookwood Hospital and Glenwood Mental Health. She has also authored numerous publications about special needs children regarding their nutrition.

Maegan is a Registered Dietician who specializes in pediatric nutrition therapy for babies at the Newborn Follow-Up Clinic.  Maegan obtained her Bachelor's Degree at Auburn University.  She also completed an Early Intervention Training Program at Auburn University Graduate School.  Maegan completed her dietetic internship at Winthrop University in South Carolina. She went on to receive her Master's in Nutrition at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, where she completed a pediatric nutrition traineeship at Sparks Center.  She has worked in specialty clinics at St. Louis Children's Hospital and Children's of Alabama.

Registered Dietician who specializes in providing pediatric nutrition support to premature children and special needs children. Margaret completed her undergraduate degree at Auburn University and went on to do an internship at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. She returned to the Sparks Clinic in Birmingham to complete a pediatric traineeship and obtain a Master’s Degree from the School of Nutrition Sciences at UAB. At that time, Margaret began working with the Newborn Follow Up Clinic and developed a special interest in providing pediatric nutrition support to premature children and special needs children.

Occupational Therapist who provides evaluation and treatment for babies at the Newborn Follow Up Clinic and in the NICU at University Hospital. Sally obtained her Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Therapy from the University of Florida and a Master’s Degree in Physical Therapy in Education from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She provides evaluation and treatment for babies in the NICU at University Hospital and Brookwood Hospital. She has worked with the Newborn Follow Up Program since it began 30 years ago. In fact, three of Sally’s four children were born prematurely at 28 weeks gestational age.

Physical Therapist who specializes in developmentally delayed children and is the Director of Physical and Occupational Therapy and Early Intervention at The Children’s Hospital of Alabama. Sheree has been with the Newborn Follow Up Clinic since February of 2006. She has worked with newborn and high risk follow up for about 25 years. In addition, Sheree is involved in national pediatric physical therapy organizations.

Physical Therapist who specializes in pediatrics and sees children with developmental delays and/or movement disorders for Children’s of Alabama Physical and Occupational Therapy Department and the Children’s Early Intervention Program.  Chantel also provides pediatric physical therapy services to the Down Syndrome Clinic at Children’s of Alabama and the Children’s Center for Weight Management.   Chantel obtained her Doctor of Physical Therapy degree in 2007 from the University of Alabama at Birmingham and is an active member of the American Physical Therapy Association.  She has worked with the Newborn Follow-Up Clinic since 2008.

After working as an audiologist for a private Ear, Nose, and Throat Clinic in Georgia and an audiologist at the Shands Hospital in Gainesville, Florida, Julie moved to Birmingham in June 2000 and began her tenure at UAB's Civitan Sparks Clinics. Julie has a Bachelor's of Science and Education from the University of Georgia (1993), a Master of Science in Speech and Hearing Sciences from the University of South Alabama (1995), and a Doctorate in Audiology from the University of Florida (2000). Her main areas of interest include early identification of hearing loss and auditory brainstem response testing.

Ashley is a pediatric audiologist who provides hearing evaluations and treatment for the Newborn Follow Up Clinic and for the UAB Sparks Clinics. Dr. Ashley Campbell completed her undergraduate and graduate degree at the University of Southern Mississippi. Ashley completed her fourth year externship at Magnolia Speech School in Mississippi where she developed particular interests in pediatric hearing loss, pediatric amplification, and auditory processing disorder. Ashley has been involved with the Newborn Follow Up Clinic since 2011.

Sarah graduated from the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Nursing with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 2003 and from the University of North Alabama with a Master of Science in Nursing in 2012. She has been a nurse since 2003 at UAB Hospital. In 2005, she transferred to the Continuing Care Nursery (CCN) at UAB Hospital and to the Regional Neonatal Intensive Care Nursery (RNICU) in 2009. In 2015, she joined the Newborn Follow-Up Clinic staff as the clinic coordinator.
