Through an internship with UAB HR Talent Acquisition, Birmingham City Schools student Kendall Petties gained skills and experience and helped inform UAB’s employee recruitment and retention efforts.
The UAB's Cutest Pet 2024 contest attracted nearly 400 entries from employees across campus. Meet the winner, Bunny, a two-year-old longhair tabby, and her owner, Jenny Duckworth, an academic advisor in the Vulcan Materials Academic Success Center.

The UAB Sexual Health Research Clinic is recruiting women ages 18 to 45 to assess the safety, tolerability, and efficacy of a new vaginal suppository in women diagnosed with bacterial vaginosis (BV). Eligible participants will be compensated for each completed visit.

  • Are 18–45 years of age?
  • Are you pre-menopausal?
  • Have you been on birth control for the last 3 months and plan to continue use?
  • Are you currently having any vaginal symptoms?
  • Are you willing to abstain from sexual intercourse for at least one month?

Do you want to make a difference for kids? More children are at risk for type 2 diabetes, and you can help us learn why.

Type 2 diabetes is diagnosed when the body has problems with high blood sugar levels. This can lead to serious health problems if not identified and treated early.

DISCOVERY is a study for children 9-14 years old who may be at higher risk of developing type 2 diabetes.

What will happen in the study?

  • Physical exams
  • Glucose (blood sugar) monitors

After an extensive national search, UAB has named Kevyn E. Merten, Ph.D., as the senior associate vice president for Research Operations, effective Jan. 14. Merten will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Office of Research. He joins UAB from the University of Louisville.

The AWARE Disability Management Program is celebrating Veterans Day all month long with events and programs to honor the armed forces and give back to those who served.

This month, UAB Employee Wellness is spotlighting the impact pets have on our mental health — including those experiencing seasonal mood shifts — by bringing back its UAB’s Cutest Pet Contest. UAB employees are invited to submit pictures of pets now through Nov. 14.
You may be eligible to participate in a research study looking at the effects of sacubitril/valsartan on how your body handles sugar. This medication is related to blood pressure and is safe to take with or without hypertension. Eligible participants must be healthy men and women, African American, and have no history of diabetes, heart disease or kidney problems. The study involves performing some exercise, taking sacubitril/valsartan, and collecting blood samples. Participants will be compensated $675 for completing all the visits.
