Do you have high blood pressure and a BMI over 30? Come participate in the Precision-BP Study

Participate in the PRECISION-BP research study investigating the best time to take blood pressure medication, morning or evening. This study participants will receive blood pressure medications for 28 days. Eligible participants must be obese (BMI: 30-45 kg/m2) men and women, have high blood pressure, and have no history of heart or kidney problems. The study involves wearing a blood pressure monitor for 24 hours, 24-hour inpatient visits at UAB Hospital, taking medications, and collecting blood and urine samples. Meals will be provided at no cost. Participants will be compensated $575 for completing the study visits. UAB Comprehensive Diabetes Center starting denosumab trial in adults with established Type 1 diabetes

The Denosumab for Type 1 Diabetes phase 1/2 clinical trial, is a collaborative study with the Arthur Riggs Diabetes and Metabolism Research Institute and the Center for Diabetes and Metabolic Diseases at Indiana University.

Healthy Children, Adolescents, and Teens Aged 2-17 Years Old Needed for a Catch-Up Pneumonia Vaccine Study

This study is looking for healthy children and adolescents, ages 2 to 17 years old that are interested in getting a pneumonia vaccine. Most children get a pneumonia vaccine in the first year of life. This research study will be testing a new version of the pneumonia vaccine that is designed to protect your child against additional strains of pneumonia. This means your child will receive one dose of the updated version of the vaccine, PCV21, or your child will receive PCV20, the currently administered pneumonia vaccine in the U.S. You will be expected to accompany your child for 2 clinic visits that will include your child’s vaccine injection and 2 blood draws. You must complete two telephone visits as well. The study duration is 6 months. Your child may qualify for enrollment if they are healthy and are ages 7 months to 23 months, but have never had a pneumonia vaccine. Compensation will be provided. Are you a healthy adult above 18 years of age? You may be qualified to take part in a cardiometabolic research study investigating the effect of exercise and glucose on heart hormones.

Eligible participants must be healthy adults (BMI less than 45 kg/m2) and have no history of diabetes, heart problems, or kidney problems. The study involves consuming prepared meals, performing exercise on a treadmill, undergoing a glucose test, and collecting blood, urine samples, and collection of genetic information. Effective Oct. 1, 2023, eligible UAB employees who are in their initial six-month probationary period will be allowed to utilize their accrued vacation time and three personal holidays with their supervisor's approval.
