After an extensive national search, UAB has appointed David Kimberlin, M.D., as associate vice president for Clinical Trial Operations, effective Jan. 1, 2025.

Whether you are needing someone to talk to, or even have no history of mental health conditions and are just wanting to further knowledge within the medical and mental health field, we would love to get you involved!

Our Adolescent Study is a Non-Treatment Study. Our Non-Treatment Studies do NOT involve testing a new medication or intervention. Instead, these studies focus on understanding behaviors and experiences of mental health conditions via interviews, tests, or surveys.

2) NON-TREATMENT STUDIES – Our Non-Treatment Studies do NOT involve testing a new medication or intervention. Instead, these studies focus on understanding behaviors and experiences of mental health conditions via interviews, tests, or surveys.

PURPOSE
This is a pilot study to assess the feasibility of performing virtually administered art therapy research, as well as a preliminary study to explore whether calligraphy training affects anxiety levels in healthy individuals with mild to moderate anxiety.

TIME & LOCATION
All meetings and training sessions will be held on Zoom. Participation includes up to a total of 15 hours of time over 12 calendar weeks—an intro meeting, 4 training sessions, a debriefing meeting, and 15 minutes a day of practice--5 days a week for 4 weeks. Pending full recruitment, training classes will be held in January-February 2025.

Join us at the Alabama Vaccine Research Clinic at UAB! We are seeking participants who were assigned male at birth, are 18 years or older, are not living with HIV, have had receptive anal intercourse (RAI) and regularly douche before intercourse. Participants must not have taken oral or injectable PrEP (pre-exposure prophylaxis) for 8 weeks prior to screening. Our clinical trial will help in the development of an on-demand PrEP in the form of a rectal douche. Your involvement will include simple procedures such as medical and sexual history collection, blood and urine sample testing, a physical exam, and receiving PrEP products in the form of an oral pill and a douche. We are conducting a research study to find out if a new contact lens can treat nearsightedness in children. 

You can be a part of this study if your child

  • Is 8 to less than 13 years old
  • Needs glasses or contact lenses to see well at far objects
  • Is willing to wear contact lenses

The study includes 6 visits over a year, and your child will receive eye examinations, contact lenses, lens fitting, and lens prescription at no cost.

If eligible, you will be compensated $250 at the completion of the study for your time and participation.

The purpose of this study?

  • Calculate baseline data for Bioness Integrated Therapy System (BITS) and identify its clinical implications in treating visual impairments.
  • Compare the baseline data of Bioness Integrated Therapy System (BITS) to Dynavision for visual scanning.

Who are we looking for?

  • Healthy adults aged 50-59 without physical, visual, or cognitive impairment and with no history of seizures or balance problems.
  • Adults who are able to walk without assistive devices and are English speakers.

What would you have to do in 60 minutes?

  • Fill out a short survey for demographic data.
  • Quick functional screening of upper extremities.
  • Perform four tests on BITS.
  • Perform four tests on Dynavision.

Participants will receive a $25 gift card.
