Ford named first UAB SUCCESS Champion
The UAB SUCCESS Initiative honors Eric Ford, Ph.D., professor in the School of Public Health and chair of the UAB Faculty Senate, for going above and beyond in shaping the student experience at UAB. Champions will be selected quarterly by the initiative’s executive steering committee.

Participate in the PRECISION-BP research study investigating the best time to take blood pressure medication, morning or evening. This study participants will receive blood pressure medications for 28 days. Eligible participants must be obese (BMI: 30-45 kg/m2) men and women, have high blood pressure, and have no history of heart or kidney problems. The study involves wearing a blood pressure monitor for 24 hours, 24-hour inpatient visits at UAB Hospital, taking medications, and collecting blood and urine samples. Meals will be provided at no cost. Participants will be compensated $575 for completing the study visits. Are you an adult 18 years and over and taking medication for high blood pressure? Join the IDH-MEGA study. The goal of this study is to learn what is the best approach for measuring blood pressure for the diagnosis and management of hypertension.
In this study, you will wear a blood pressure monitor for 24 hours and take home blood pressures with the same monitor for 7 days. At the end of the study we will collect laboratory samples and you will have an echocardiogram (ultrasound of your heart). You will not receive any medications or have to stop taking your medications to participate in the study.
You will not be eligible to participate if you have any heart rhythm abnormalities such as atrial fibrillation. You also will not be eligible if you are pregnant or have had any changes to your medications in the past 2 weeks, or you are a shift worker.
You will be compensated for your time.

Share Your Perspective on PrEP
We're looking for gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men aged 18-39 years old to understand how they connect with HIV PrEP and prevention messages.
The purpose of this study is to get to know how you feel about seeing PrEP promotional messaging, such as advertisements, commercials, signs, or any other type of promotion by completing a 20-minute survey.
Compensation is $50.

Participate in Type 2 Diabetes Research
The purpose of this NIH-funded trial is to examine the effects of three different diabetes treatments to determine if they improve night-time blood sugars.
This trial involves:
- A screening visit that includes a blood draw, urine test and physical exam
- Treatment with Metformin, Insulin Glargine (long-acting insulin) or the experimental drug Dorzagliatin which is FDA-approved for research, for up to 8 weeks
- 2-4 inpatient visits/ including two overnight stays at the Clinical Research Unit at 15th floor of Jefferson Tower.
- All visits to be completed within a three-month period.
Study-related tests and procedures are provided free of charge. Participants will be compensated up to $2,500 for study completion. All participants must be diagnosed with type 2 DM and not be on any type of insulin therapy.

In 2024, more than 6,400 employees activated their My Health Rewards account — 1,200 more activations than in 2023. Of those, 3,935 participants logged enough healthy behaviors last year to receive a payout of $50 or more. That trend has continued since the 2025 program launched earlier this year.
