Volunteers Needed for Minority Stress Counseling Study for LGBTQ+ Identifying Individuals

-Study includes up to 16 in-person sessions of weekly counseling for free
-Remuneration in the form of up to two distributions of $10 and $15 for completing two surveys over the course of the study ($25 total)

To be included:
-You must be an adult (18 or older)
-Identify as LGBTQ+

Our study is a counseling intervention designed to address mental health concerns related to identity-related minority stress. However, there are a few conditions that we do not think would be a good fit. If you are experiencing severe drug addiction, past year history of suicide attempt/self-injury, eating disorder problems, or struggling with psychosis you would not be eligible for this study.

The UAB STARS Lab is conducting a research study to explore children's motivation to complete moderately challenging tasks and how this relates to academic achievement, language, cognition, and behavior in individuals with Down syndrome.

Who can participate?
• Children aged 15-21 with a diagnosis of Down syndrome (both males and females are welcome).
What does the study involve?
• 1-2 days of activities at the University of Alabama at Birmingham in Campbell Hall.
• Your child will complete language and cognitive assessments, as well as game-like activities with a researcher.
• Caregivers will complete questionnaires and participate in an interview about their child’s communication, behavior, and development.

What will you receive?
• $50 compensation for participation.
• Reimbursement for travel expenses.
• A score report with your child’s results.

Recruiting Children Ages 11-14!

Are you a parent of a child between the ages of 11-14?

The UAB Science of Child Development and Neurodiversity Lab is recruiting participants for a study on socio-emotional competencies across diverse populations.
This study includes children who are typically developing or diagnosed with specific learning disorders (such as dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia) and/or ADHD.

What will your family do?
• Caregivers will have a 30-minute online meeting to review the study and sign consent forms.
• Caregivers will complete a 30-minute survey, and children will complete a 2-hour survey online.
• Children will also take part in a 1.5-hour online cognitive assessment.

After completing the study, families will receive:
• A resource guide with tips to improve socio-emotional skills.
• A score report providing insights into cognitive function and academic achievement.
• A $50 gift card upon study completion.

Learn more about the CT-388-104 Study testing the safety and effectiveness of a selective GLP-1/GIP investigational drug for those living with overweight or obesity with type 2 diabetes.

You may be able to join the CT-388-104 Study if you:

  • Are 18 through 75 years old
  • Have a body mass index (BMI) of 25 or above
  • Have been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes
  • Have tried to lose weight once or more through diet and exercise but without success

There are other requirements for taking part in this study. The study team will go over these with you.

If you qualify to join, you may receive at no cost:

  • The investigational drug or placebo
  • Close medical care and follow-up throughout the study
  • Lifestyle management counseling

Participate in the PRECISION-BP research study investigating the best time to take blood pressure medication, morning or evening. This study participants will receive blood pressure medications for 28 days. Eligible participants must be obese (BMI: 30-45 kg/m2) men and women, have high blood pressure, and have no history of heart or kidney problems. The study involves wearing a blood pressure monitor for 24 hours, 24-hour inpatient visits at UAB Hospital, taking medications, and collecting blood and urine samples. Meals will be provided at no cost. Participants will be compensated $575 for completing the study visits. Eligible participants must be healthy adults (BMI less than 45 kg/m2) and have no history of diabetes, heart problems, or kidney problems. The study involves consuming prepared meals, performing exercise on a treadmill, undergoing a glucose test, and collecting blood, urine samples, and collection of genetic information. You may be eligible to participate in a research study looking at the effects of sacubitril/valsartan on how your body handles sugar. This medication is related to blood pressure and is safe to take with or without hypertension. Eligible participants must be healthy men and women, African American, and have no history of diabetes, heart disease or kidney problems. The study involves performing some exercise, taking sacubitril/valsartan, and collecting blood samples. Participants will be compensated $675 for completing all the visits.
