The StrokeNet Research Fellowship is a one-year, research-focused training opportunity designed to support early-stage investigators interested in advancing stroke research.

Fellows dedicate at least 50% of their time to research training, project development and activities that support StrokeNet clinical and translational research, including an independent research project developed in collaboration with a Regional Coordinating Center (RCC). The remaining time may be devoted to clinical responsibilities (if the fellow holds a clinical appointment) or additional educational activities such as coursework, research training programs, or advanced degrees. The fellowship provides salary support and benefits through a ~$50,000 NINDS award, and institutions may supplement the stipend as long as no other funding source supports more than 50% of the fellow’s salary.

The program is designed to enhance the education, mentorship, and career development of future stroke clinical researchers across a wide range of disciplines, including neurology, neurosurgery, epidemiology, rehabilitation sciences, nursing, and basic science. During the training year, fellows participate in StrokeNet educational activities - including Grand Rounds, professional development webinars, journal clubs, and a collaborative learning community, while developing and presenting their research project within the StrokeNet network. Fellows must maintain protected research time during the work week, ensuring meaningful engagement in research rather than conducting it outside clinical hours. Applicants may be trainees or junior faculty and may be based at an RCC hub or an affiliated site. The program welcomes candidates from diverse backgrounds.
