The Neuroimmunology and Multiple Sclerosis non-standard training (fellowship) program at UAB provides an opportunity for neurologists with an interest in multiple sclerosis (MS) and clinical neuroimmunology to develop specialized expertise in the diagnosis and treatment of MS and other neuroimmunological disorders. This one-year, clinically focused, clinic-based training program provides trainees with intensive exposure to new and return patients with a wide range of neuroimmunological disorders. In addition to providing direct, subspecialty patient care, trainees spend time working with specialists from other disciplines to gain a multidisciplinary perspective on caring for neuroimmunological patients. A robust didactic program rounds out the training program and includes case conferences, prepared presentations, and seminar-style discussions. Trainees are encouraged to tailor the program to their own interests and career plans, and faculty from the Division of Neuroimmunology provide mentorship along the way to advise trainees on their clinical education and future career plans.

Fellowship Funding
The UAB Neuroimmunology and Multiple Sclerosis fellowship is currently funded by an Institutional Fellowship Award from the National MS Society, which extends through June 2026.
Past fellows have supported their fellowships through individual fellowships awarded by the MS Society or by unrestricted grants awarded by pharmaceutical companies.
During years in which funding is not already assured, applications to the NMSS fellowship program occur AFTER the conclusion of the Fellowship Match, approximately 1 year before the start of the fellowship. Applicants for individual training awards are typically notified around December of the year before the start of the fellowship.
