Karen Coats is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), National Certified Counselor (NCC), Board Certified Telemental Health Provider (BC-TMH), and Certified First Responder Counselor (CFRC). She received a Master of Education (M.Ed) in Community Agency Counseling from the University of Montevallo and Bachelor of Science in Pre-Professional Counseling from Nelson University. Prior to coming to EACC, Karen was the coordinator of Justice Involved Services for a local mental health center, providing services to incarcerated individuals.

She has experience working with adults on a wide variety of issues including: anxiety, depression, stress management, burnout, grief, domestic violence, relationship concerns, family incarceration, first responders, trauma, and work-life balance. She also has experience working with individuals and family members impacted by serious mental illness. Karen utilizes an integrative approach to counseling combining solution focused techniques with person-centered and cognitive behavior techniques to assist individuals with developing skills to manage and reduce overwhelming thoughts and emotions.
