The University of Alabama at Birmingham strives to offer its employees work environments that are flexible and engaging, thereby sustaining a culture that supports individual wellbeing and work-life balance. The Alternate Work Options Program assists with providing flexibility of work locations (for eligible positions) and scheduling based on the needs of the department, our students, and the areas served.
In order to uphold the university’s mission and shared values — including stewardship, accountability, and excellence — not all university employees are eligible to participate in the Alternate Work Options program, and supervisors are not required to approve all requests. Employees must remain committed to UAB’s mission, and units/schools/colleges’ staffing decisions must support continued growth and success across mission pillars with an unwavering commitment to our students, Birmingham, Alabama, and all who depend on us.
UAB offers four alternate work options for Workgroup A staff — Hybrid (Partially) Remote Work, Fully Remote Work for in-state and out-of-state employees, and Flexible Work Schedules. Options may vary according to an employee’s position, performance, and department operational needs.
