Growing up in north central Nebraska, I was first exposed to teaching while playing in the back of a one-room rural school classroom while my mother taught her students. I completed a Bachelor’s degree at Northern Michigan University in 2006 under the primary supervision of Charles Leith but also worked with Sheila Burns, Cynthia Prosen, Paul Andronis, and Harry Whitaker. At NMU, I discovered my own love of teaching as a TA for multiple courses.

I then completed Master’s degrees in Psychology and College Teaching and a Ph.D. in Psychology and Visual Perception in 2011 from the University of New Hampshire under the supervision of William Wren Stine.

Following graduate school, I completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Rutgers University in 2014 under the supervision of Thomas Papathomas. I was fortunate to also be able to teach multiple courses during my time at Rutgers.

Before coming to UAB from 2014 to 2019, I was an Assistant Professor of Psychology at Marywood University in Scranton Pennsylvania. I began my time at UAB in August of 2019.
