Has your child been diagnosed with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) or elevated liver enzymes? If so, he/she could be eligible to participate in a 6-month research study that is investigating whether changes in diet composition affect various health outcomes in adolescents with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. You will receive diet counseling and groceries at no cost. Participants will be compensated up to $1475 if completed the study. If you are 19 or older and an exclusive vaper (meaning only vaping and no cigarette smoking) who lives with someone that does not vape, or a non-vaper who lives with an exclusive vaper, then you may qualify for this study. The person who vapes/does not vape can be your roommate, partner etc. Potential participants will be screened prior to enrollment to ensure they are eligible. Once enrolled, participants will blow into a spirometer, which will measure their lung function and answer questions on respiratory symptoms. Recovering from a stroke? Still have problems with confusion, slow thinking, or memory? If so, you may eligible to take part in a study testing a new form of cognitive training designed to improve how quickly you process information and perform daily activities. The study pays participants $20 per training session on average. The training program, which requires several visits to UAB, can be tailored to fit your schedule. You may be eligible to participate in a research study about the effects of sacubitril/valsartan on how your body handles insulin and glucose. This medication is related to blood pressure. Eligible participants must be healthy men and women, African American, and have no history of diabetes, heart problems, or kidney problems. The study involves performing some exercise, taking sacubitril/valsartan, and collecting blood samples. Participants will be compensated $575 for completing all the visits. Eligible participants must be healthy adults (BMI less than 45 kg/m2) and have no history of diabetes, heart problems, or kidney problems. The study involves consuming prepared meals, performing exercise on a treadmill, undergoing a glucose test, and collecting blood, urine samples, and collection of genetic information. If you’re being treated for MDD and your current antidepressant medication(s) is not working, the SAVITRI Study might interest you. The SAVITRI Study is researching a potential MDD therapy to improve symptoms of depression, and you may be able to participate. This research study is now enrolling adults diagnosed with MDD. Those who qualify will receive the investigational medication (or placebo), study-specific medical exams, and study-specific laboratory tests at no cost. Participants in the SAVITRI Study must: be 18 to 65 years of age; have a clinical diagnosis of MDD; be currently on antidepressant medication(s); have had inadequate response to up to 5 oral antidepressant medications; and fulfill other eligibility criteria. You may be eligible to participate in a research study about the effects of Exercise and Metoprolol (a blood pressure pill) on a protein in your blood. This protein is related to heart disease. Eligible participants must be Healthy men and women, African American or Caucasians, and have no history of diabetes, heart problems, or kidney problems.
