The UAB Benevolent Fund is working to build its seventh Habitat House through the generosity of UAB employees, who have contributed $38,000 of the needed $50,000 to begin construction.
This year’s house is being built for Eddie Mae Hopkins in Birmingham’s Ensley neighborhood and will be dedicated Dec. 7.
The build timeline has been extended through Nov. 19 to enable more Blazers have the opportunity to volunteer; individuals with a willingness to work can register to volunteer on BlazerPulse, UAB's community engagement platform, for slots available 7:30 a.m.-4 p.m. Thursday-Saturday.
“This extended build time will enable UAB to complete Eddie Mae’s house prior to Thanksgiving, so she can celebrate in her new home,” said Lisa Higginbotham, Benevolent Fund manager. “Seeing Blazers work together to support a member of the Birmingham community is such a rewarding experience, and I’d encourage everyone to participate.”
