UAB and the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute will bring together a diverse panel of citizens and community leaders to discuss the importance of civil discourse and how it can be practiced in our daily lives during a free public event 6-8 p.m. Jan. 19 in Heritage Hall Room 102.
“We can all do our part to treat everyone with respect and consideration, even those with whom we disagree. While there are no simple answers, together we can work to create an environment where our interactions are conducted with civility. With dialogue, we can begin to turn the tide in what many are calling an increasingly uncivil society,” said Paulette Patterson Dilworth, vice president, Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion at UAB.
The panel for “A Dialogue on Civility and Decoding Activism in the 21st Century” includes UAB Assistant Professor Anthony Hood, Ph.D., Associate Professor Nick Van Wagoner, M.D., Ph.D., student leader Khawla Suhaila, Beloved Community Church minister Rev. Jennifer Sanders and Zac Henson, Ph.D., founder, Cooperative New School for Urban Studies and Environmental Justice. UAB sociologist Nyesha Black will moderate.
This forum is co-sponsored by UAB Office of the Vice President for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, UAB Institute for Human Rights and the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute.
