GreenMail, UAB’s student-centered email newsletter, transitions to a new name and template on Aug. 21. Blazer Weekly will be the new name of the newsletter, which will highlight student interests and information such as news and announcements, student spotlights, important dates and deadlines, events, and UAB resources vital to success.
The decision to refresh the design and scope of the newsletter came on the heels of a student survey conducted this spring. The new format is optimized for mobile and desktop devices and will include information of interest to undergraduate and graduate students, as well as those on campus and attending online. It supports engagement with other institutional communications efforts, such as UAB social media accounts and Campus Calendar. A new regular poll, called This or That, aims to encourage student engagement with Blazer Weekly and will feature queries about student interests.
The name Blazer Weekly was chosen after a summer poll that included several new naming options and opportunities for student suggestions. When the most popular name was deemed problematic due to overuse, the team behind the refresh selected a student suggestion that aligns with the overall goal: to provide UAB’s student body with concise, engaging, and high-level information for the week ahead.
Blazer Weekly will continue to be distributed on Wednesdays to all enrolled UAB students. Faculty and staff who would like to subscribe may do so via the UAB Subscription Center. Content ideas may be submitted via the Submit a Publicity Request button on UAB’s Brand and Communication Toolkit.
