University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) School of Nursing Associate Professor Sigrid Ladores, PhD, RN, PNP, CNE, is President-Elect of the inaugural chapter of the Philippine Nurses Association of Alabama.
“I was surprised and thrilled to be elected as the President-Elect in the inaugural chapter of PNA in Alabama,” said Ladores, who has been a member of the Philippine Nurses Association of America for 14 years.
The Alabama chapter is the 54th chapter of the Philippine Nurses Association of America Inc., whose mission is to, “uphold and foster the positive image and welfare of its constituent members, promote professional excellence and contribute to significant outcomes to healthcare and society.” The PNA-America has more than 5,000 members and represents bedside nurses across all specialties, including advance practice nurses, nurse administrators, nurse researchers, nurse educators, among others.
The induction ceremony was held virtually and was attended by 88 guests and nursing leaders from the American Nurses Association, American Academy of Nursing, Philippine Nurses Association of America, Joint Commission, Alabama Board of Nursing, National Black Nurses Association and several hospitals in the Birmingham metro area. Ladores served as the master of ceremony for the virtual induction.
“The PNAAL Executive Board Members did not let a global pandemic interfere with their plans to do a proper induction ceremony,” Ladores said. “They planned, rehearsed, and rolled out a flawless virtual celebration with the installation of officers”.
Ladores represented the chapter at the PNAA 41st Annual National & First Virtual Convention that was originally scheduled to be held in San Diego July 2-5, 2020. She also served as the master of ceremony for the national convention’s induction, gala and awards night on July 4.
