Three-time graduate selected NIH Future Research Leader
University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) School of Nursing Alumna Timiya S. Nolan, PhD, RN, ANP-BC, has been selected as a Future Research Leader by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Scientific Workforce Diversity office. She is one of approximately 30 early-career scientists who were selected among an applicant pool of more than 170 scientists.
As a Future Research Leader, Nolan will participate in the NIH Future Research Leaders Conference to be held September 12-14, 2017. The conference allows talented post-doctoral and junior faculty to gain insights from NIH leadership and investigators on developing independent scientific careers, pursuing tenure-track career opportunities in the NIH Intramural Research Program, collaborating with the NIH community and learning about NIH extramural grants and funding opportunities.
During the conference, Nolan will briefly present her current research on breast cancer survivorship and present a research poster at the NIH Research Festival.
Nolan is a postdoctoral researcher at The Ohio State University College of Nursing. She has previously served as faculty within the UAB School of Nursing’s Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program and RN Mobility pathway.
Nolan is a three-time alumna, earning her BSN, Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Nursing from the School in 2008, 2011, and 2016, respectively. Internationally renowned breast cancer survivorship researcher Associate Dean for Research and Professor Karen Meneses, PhD, RN, FAAN, was her mentor in the PhD program.
