The luncheon featured messages from Dean Doreen Harper, Dr. Linda Moneyham and three of our scholarship recipients. This occasion allows students the unique opportunity to personally meet, recognize and thank the men and women who invest in their education and future. During the luncheon scholarship recipients Jessica Patterson, Jacqueline Bui, and Bryan Comb expressed their sincerest gratitude to their donors.
Jessica Patterson, 5th semester nursing student, spent much of her junior and senior years of high school taking UAB credits—earning 40 credit hours before her freshman year. She maintains a 4.0 and is a member of the Nursing Honors program and presented her research at the National Rural Health Association Convention in San Antonio.
Jacqueline Bui, also a 5th semester nursing student, was led into nursing by a compassionate nurse practitioner from her childhood. She is a member of the Nursing Honors program and has worked with Dr. Karen Meneses on the Young Breast Cancer Survivors Network.
Lastly, Bryan Combs, a current UAB School of Nursing faculty member and past recipient, was part of the first group of students in the UAB Accelerated Master’s in Nursing Pathway program. Brian worked at UAB and Birmingham-Southern college as an athletic trainer before deciding to return to school to pursue a career in nursing. Bryan Combs is currently teaching in the family nurse practitioner program.
These exceptional students are only a few of the many whose future has been greatly impacted by our generous donors. The event concluded with a special thank you from Dr. Harper. The Scholarship luncheon is a special tradition that we look forward to year after year.
