BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - UAB's Alys Stephens Center will present Monterey Jazz Festival on Tour, featuring Kenny Barron Trio, Regina Carter, Kurt Elling, Russell Malone, Kiyoshi Kitagawa and Johnathan Blake at 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 28 in the center, 1200 10th Ave. South. Celebrate 52 years of the most successful jazz festival in the world with this star-studded show featuring today's top jazz performers. The group features the nine-time Grammy Award-nominated and 2010 NEA Jazz Master Barron on piano; Grammy Award-nominated violinist Carter; Grammy Award-winning guitarist Malone; Grammy Award winner and nine-time Grammy Award-nominated vocalist Elling; bassist  Kitagawa; and Grammy Award-nominated drummer Blake. The band made its debut at the 52nd annual Monterey Jazz Festival in September 2009. The show will feature a selection of standards and originals from all periods of jazz.

The Monterey Jazz Festival, founded in 1958, is a nonprofit organization dedicated to perpetuating the uniquely American form of music known as jazz, by producing performances that celebrate the legacy and expand the boundaries of jazz and by presenting year-round local, regional, national and international jazz education programs.
