BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - More than 350 Birmingham-area schoolchildren will enjoy a free performance by Hubbard Street 2 Dance Company, presented by the Alys Stephens Center as part of its Arts in Action education and outreach program. The children will travel to the center from schools across the metro area.
The performance will take place at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 6, in the Alys Stephens Center's Sirote Theatre, 1200 10th Ave. South.
Hubbard Street 2 (HUB2) is a company of seven dancers, ages 17-25, which performs works by some of the nation's most promising young choreographers. The company is leading the way of new dance with a distinctive repertoire reflecting influences from ballet to hip-hop to improvisation. HUB2 is applauded across the country for its multi-layered educational activities that expose students of all backgrounds to dance. This program, just for kids, will blend a dynamic dance performance with educational insights into dance styles, choreography, technique and technical stage elements. Located on the UAB campus, the Alys Stephens Performing Arts Center is one of the Southeast's premier performing arts centers, hosting the best in international, national and local performance. Arts in Action, the center's education and outreach initiative, presents programs and events to enrich the lives of both students and adults. The program's mission is to cultivate an appreciation for and understanding of the arts and make the performing arts accessible to everyone. The program offers lower-cost tickets for students and children to selected performances as well as free buses to and from the center.
