UAB School of Business Meet-the-Employers is an annual event hosted by the university chapter of Beta Alpha Psi and the National Association of Black Accountants. Recruiters from 18 of metro Birmingham's largest CPA firms and corporations will be represented and mingle with accounting students seeking internships. More than 125 students are expected to attend the event, which is open to UAB students only.

"We have indications from the majority of the participating firms and companies that they are looking to hire interns, and our UAB students are well positioned to take advantage of those opportunities during this event," said Angel Smith, CIA, CPA, one of the event coordinators and UAB accounting instructor.

The event will take place Friday, August 28 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the lobby of the UAB Business and Engineering Complex, 1150 10th Avenue South, Birmingham.

Despite an increase in Alabama's unemployment rate to 10.2 percent, Meet-the-Employers is an indicator that the economy may be turning a corner. Find out why participating companies are looking to hire interns and hear their job forecasts for late 2009 and early 2010. UAB students can share their experiences interviewing and meeting with company representatives in a contracting job market.
