BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) School of Business student Dustin Corey, 21, of Pinson has been awarded the Regions Information Systems (IS) Practicum, which includes an internship and scholarship, for the upcoming academic year. The Birmingham-based bank, one of the nation's largest full-service providers of consumer and commercial banking, trust, securities brokerage, mortgage and insurance products and services, extends its IS practicum to just one Alabama university undergraduate student each year.
Corey, a senior this fall, begins his work with Regions in August. He is an IS major at UAB who is set to graduate in May 2010.
The practicum will allow Corey to rotate through a variety of areas within Regions' technology division, including application development, data security, telecommunications, network, desktop services, mainframe operations, distributed systems, branch technology and project management. He will spend time working in each area on an eight week rotation. The practicum scholarship is worth $5,000.
"I will have the chance to rotate through several departments, watching and learning from what I see," Corey said. "It is a great opportunity to experience a number of job responsibilities and hone in on the sector of IS that I would want to pursue after graduation."
