The Junior Faculty Exchange Program involves a reciprocal exchange of a Department of Surgery assistant and associate professor-level faculty from UAB and several institutions during the summer of an academic year. Available visiting professorships include:
Assistant Professor-Level Faculty
- University of California - Davis
- University of Michigan
- Northwestern University
Associate Professor-Level Faculty
- University of Florida
- University of California - Davis
The program was created to build an academic relationship between the participating surgical departments and to provide a mechanism for junior faculty to disseminate their research, expand their networks and learn from other leaders and experts outside of their home institution.
In past years, a typical visit lasts two or three days, and the visiting faculty member usually gives a grand rounds lecture.
Faculty visiting the UAB Department of Surgery can expect to get to know faculty and trainees, tour facilities, experience Birmingham, and deliver the UAB Surgery Faculty Exchange Lectureship at our Grand Rounds, which occur on Tuesdays at 7:15 a.m. Applicants must apply and be selected through their home institution.
