The UAB Department of Surgery is committed to training and equipping the next generation of surgeons. Our fellowship training programs prepare surgeons for rich careers in their areas of specialty.
Our Abdominal Transplant Surgery Fellowship is designed to provide comprehensive training in multiorgan transplantation at one of the nation's busiest transplant centers, and our Breast Oncology Fellowship enables fellows to manage all aspects of benign and malignant breast disease in order to become a leader in the field. Fellows in our Minimally Invasive Surgery Fellowship are expected to graduate skilled in the evaluation and treatment of morbid obesity and benign foregut pathology, while our Colorectal Surgery Fellowship Program provides fellows with one of the highest-volume robotic colorectal experiences in the country.
Our Pediatric Surgery Fellowship gives fellows training at Children’s Hospital of Alabama, the third-largest pediatric medical facility in the United States, and our Pediatric Endoscopic Surgery Fellowship seeks to provide fellows with endosurgery experience with pediatric patients in ECMO, critical care units, the NICU and the PICU. Our Surgical Critical Care Fellowship provides fellows with in-depth knowledge of the pathophysiology of critical care and advanced skill in critical care techniques, and those in our Vascular Surgery Fellowship receive training in general surgery through our General Surgery Residency Program, while also training extensively in vascular surgery. The UAB Department of Surgery also works with the American Association of Endocrine Surgeons to provide fellows in the AAES Fellowship Program with extensive exposure to standard and advanced/minimally invasive techniques in endocrine surgery, medical endocrinology, pathology, ultrasonography and laryngoscopy.
