Our office provides all faculty with resources and opportunities to network and collaborate with one another and with community members.  We understand that faculty members may face barriers to success, and we offer a variety of programs and support.

Access & Engagement Faculty Liaisons

The Heersink School of Medicine Office of Access & Engagement Faculty Liaisons are faculty members representing each department in the school. Liaisons are appointed by department chairs for the position and serve as an important link between our office and the departments. Faculty Associations

The Heersink Access & Engagement Faculty Associations play a critical role in the support of our faculty. These groups help create, maintain, and foster a culture of excellence and belonging at the school. All Heersink faculty are invited to join our associations and attend all events.

American Medical Women’s Association

American Medical Women's Association (AMWA) is a national organization dedicated to advancing women in medicine and improving women’s. UAB’s local chapter president is Leslie Rhodes, M.D., larhodes@uabmc.edu.

Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Faculty Association

The AAPI Faculty Association consists of six committees that hold regular meetings to discuss communications and dissemination, social and networking, advocacy and community engagement, leadership training, pipeline programs, and membership.

The association is co-led by Daniel Chu, M.D., MSPH, FACS, FASCRS, dchu@uabmc.edu, and Shuko Harada, M.D., sharada@uabmc.edu.

Black and African American Faculty Association

The Black and African American Faculty Association will foster, promote, and advocate for Black/African American faculty while inspiring excellence within the health care community.

The association is co-led by Danielle Powell, M.D., daniellepowell@uabmc.edu, and Farah Lubin, Ph.D., flubin@uab.edu.

The UAB Hispanic and Latin American Faculty Association

The UAB Hispanic and Latin American Faculty Association will foster, promote, and advocate for Hispanic and Latin American faculty while inspiring excellence and belonging in the health care community.

The association is led by Dr. Marcela Frazier, mgfrazier@uabmc.edu.

LGBTQ+ Faculty Association

The LGBTQ+ Faculty Association is led by Rodney Tucker, M.D., MMM, rtucker@uabmc.edu, and facilitated by a core group of faculty members from various departments.
