The Heersink School of Medicine Office of Access & Engagement offers voluntary education on a variety of topics designed to provide the Heersink community with learning opportunities that foster civility, respect, and excellence.
The training is not required. It is open to everyone as a way of supporting UAB’s Shared Values, We CARE (collaborate, act with integrity, respect all, and excel).
Common Thread Toolkit
This toolkit consists of our video modules along with discussion prompts for each video. The four modules are Building Belonging, Understanding Bias, Cultural Competency, and Conflict Resolution. Heersink members may participate in individual module training or in all four.
Best Practices Toolkit
This toolkit consists of Zoom presentations that offer to support to faculty, staff, and students. Current presentations include Best Practices for Virtual Interviews, Best Practices for Faculty Search Committees, and Best Practices for Being an Upstander.
Our office ensures no program contains impermissible restrictions or preferences related to race, sex, gender identity, ethnicity, national origin, and sexual orientation.
