Employees seeking to prioritize well-being and mitigate anxiety can try journaling with the UAB Journaling Club, a new group launching in April from UAB Learning and Development.
Three 90-minute virtual sessions are planned for the year, targeted toward transforming participants' well-being, said Salaam Green, an artist-in-Residence with UAB Arts in Medicine who will coach all sessions.
"I lead others in writing for wellness," she said. "I am a writing instructor who understands how to support professionals in health and well-being through writing and journaling. I am an expressive writing facilitator, creative writer and poetry artist — a seasoned writing coach trained to lead writing groups."
The first session, "How Journaling Helped Me Transform My Well-being," is 10:30 a.m.-noon April 20 on Zoom. Sarah Nafziger, M.D., vice president of Clinical Support Services for UAB Medicine, will share how journaling has influenced her personal and professional life. Register using the Campus Calendar.
"The benefits of journaling are endless," says UAB Chief Human Resources Officer Janet L. May. "Journaling gives you the space to dream and also to look back from time to time to see how far you have come."
