The Residency in Pediatric Optometry provides specialty clinical training for postgraduate optometrists. The program provides a unique opportunity for optometrists interested in the vision care of children and special populations and fosters exceptional, independent clinicians who will have the opportunities to excel in areas of patient care, education and research within pediatric optometry.

Supervisor, Residency in Pediatric Optometry
The resident develops knowledge and skills in the diagnosis and management of many pediatric vision problems in a variety of clinical settings, including pediatric primary care (encompassing pediatric contact lenses), binocular vision and vision therapy, vision perception, low birth weight clinics and other interdisciplinary environments that monitor multi-handicapped or develop- mentally delayed individuals. The program primarily involves direct patient care by the resident, but clinical supervision of students and teaching clinical laboratories or workshops are also incorporated into the program.

Residency Conference
Residents attend a regularly scheduled weekly Residency Conference, which includes presentations by faculty and guests, grand rounds, case conferences, journal club, records review and other learning activities. In order to better develop the residents’ scholarship, a paper suitable for publication is required.
