University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Nursing Professor and Associate Dean for Graduate Clinical Education Aimee Holland, DNP, WHNP-BC, FNP-C, FAANP, FAAN (DNP 2012), is the recipient of the 2022 Inspiration Award for Policy from the National Association of Nurse Practitioners in Women’s Health. The award recognizes a Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner who has made significant contributions to policy, leadership and advocacy to positively impact the care of women.
Two UABSON WHNP students nominated Holland for the award. Holland mentored Ciara Perkins and Emma Katherine Valentino in clinical practice for the past three semesters.
"Dr. Holland has been a wonderful teacher and mentor to many, and I am so grateful that I had the opportunity to learn from her,” Perkins said. “She goes above and beyond the call of duty to educate herself on the most evidence-based practices, curates learning opportunities, encourages others to maximize their potential, and helps develop authentic nursing leadership with those around her. She is truly an inspiration to us all and most deserving of this award.”
Holland was elected to the Board of Directors for the NPWH in 2013 and served a six-year term as Chair-elect (2016-2017), Chair (2018-2019) and Past Chair (2020-2021). She is the inaugural 2016 National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculties Rising Star Faculty award recipient and a current member of the NONPF Board of Directors. Holland has been inducted as a Fellow of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners and the American Academy of Nursing, and named a UAB School of Nursing Visionary Leader in 2021. She was an invited member to the National Task Force that recently published the sixth edition of the Standards for Quality Nurse Practitioner Education. Holland also served on the LACE Group and the ASCCP workgroup that published the 2019 ASCCP Risk-Based Management Consensus Guidelines for Cervical Screening Abnormalities.
Holland will receive the award during the NPWH Conference in Texas in September. Perkins and Valentino also will be in attendance.
