UAB Middle School Honor Bands Concert, 3 p.m., Alys Stephens Center Jemison Concert Hall, 1200 10th Ave. South. More than 300 talented Alabama students in grades 7-8 will come together to rehearse for nine hours and perform traditional band music such as marches, overtures and holiday selections. Students will be divided into four bands to be led by guest conductors: Valerie Morgan of College Park, Ga.; Andrew Cole of Marietta, Ga.; Brian Wilson of Birmingham; and UAB Associate Professor of Music Denise Gainey. Christmas at the Alys, 3 p.m., Alys Stephens Center Jemison Concert Hall, 1200 10th Ave. South. The UAB Concert Choir and Chamber Singers will join with the Hueytown High School Chamber Choir to present this holiday favorite for the entire family. Several well-known works associated with the holiday spirit will be included on the program, including Maurice Durufle's "Ubi Caritas," Elizabeth Poston's "Jesus Christ the Apple Tree" and Healy Willan's "The Three Kings." Other works to be featured include traditional favorites of the Christmas season, such as "Fum, Fum, Fum" and "Carol of the Bells" by the Hueytown Chamber Choir. UAB's premier wind and percussion ensemble will perform Alexander's "The Southerner," Camphouse's "Anthem" (based on the U.S. and Iraqi national anthems) and "Wedding Dance" by composer Jacque Press.
