BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Alys Stephens Center's ASC Kids' Club presents "A Celebration of Black History Month," with two shows, at 10 a.m. and 11:30 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 14, at the Alys Stephens Center, 1200 10th Ave. S., Birmingham. Local performers and teachers Alicia Johnson-Reed and Quinton Cockrell, along with talented young people from the Alys Stephens Center's ASC Youth Performing ensemble, have created an exciting program, "Extraordinary Americans Who Happen to be ...". The program will feature a collection of monologues written and performed by the ASC Youth Performing Ensemble, a group of local high school students. Historical characters featured in these monologues include: Madam C.J. Walker, Lena Horne, Alice Walker, Alex Hailey, Bessie Coleman, Wilma Rudolph and others. Johnson-Reed and Cockrell will direct the inspiring and heartwarming celebration, which will include spoken word and fun surprises.

This show is part of the Alys Stephens Center's ASC Kids' Club Series. Sponsors include Jane Stephens Comer, The Birmingham News, the University of Alabama at Birmingham and Viva Health.
