WHAT: | Bioartist Hunter O'Reilly, Ph.D., a geneticist at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, will present, "The Fusion of Art and Science,” a talk about her work as an artist and scientist in reinterpreting science as art through abstractions, digital art and installations. Select pieces of her work are exhibited on the second floor of UAB’s Ryals Public Health Building and may be viewed by the public weekdays, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., through April 4. The talk and art exhibit, sponsored by the Department of Biostatistics and Section on Statistical Genetics in UAB’s School of Public Health, are part of a series of events planned this year in honor of the school’s 25th anniversary. | |

WHO: | O’Reilly is an internationally shown artist and an experienced geneticist. She holds a master’s of science and doctorate degrees in genetics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and a bachelor’s of science degree from the University of California-Berkeley. She teaches biology and art at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee where she created a course, Biology Through Art, where students have an opportunity to create innovative works of art in a biology laboratory. | |
