BIRMINGHAM, AL — Delia Charest, a junior at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), placed first in a voice scholarship competition for sopranos at Trinity Methodist Church in Homewood on February 13. Charest was awarded a $3,000 prize and will join the music program at Trinity, where she will sing. Charest also will have the opportunity to teach voice to high school students there.
Charest, 20, of Hoover, is majoring in music education at UAB. She is the daughter of Virginia Wallace and Price Charest of Brandon, Mississippi. She is a graduate of Northwest Rankin High School.
Charest studies voice at UAB under the direction of Rachel Mathes, D.M.A., director of UAB Opera in the department of music.
