Bio

Valerie has been employed at Children’s Hospital/UAB for over 25 years. During this time, she has worked as the nutritionist for the pulmonary division, research coordinator for the Cystic Fibrosis Research Center, and currently serves as Nutrition Faculty and Training Director for the Pediatric Pulmonary Center. 

Valerie has appointments with UAB as associate professor in Pediatrics in the Division of Pediatric Pulmonary & Sleep Medicine and a secondary appointment as Instructor in the UAB Department of Nutrition Sciences. She serves as a pediatric nutrition preceptor to dietetic interns and mentors other students through various programs. Valerie provides nutrition care in the outpatient setting including CF transition clinic, and the general pulmonary clinic. She has held many elected positions at the local, state, and national dietetic associations.

Interests

Clinical Interests: Pediatric pulmonary diseases, primarily cystic fibrosis, CF-related diabetes, and quality improvement projects to improve nutrition outcomes.
