Congratulations to our four graduating Palliative Care Fellows:
- Matt Rhinewalt, MD, will join a Med/Peds Practice in New Albany, Mississippi
- Quintesia Grant, MD, will practice at Emory and Grady Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia
- Lucas McElwain, MD, is headed to North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo, Mississippi
- Erica Leonard, MD, will join Hospice of the Chesapeake in Annapolis, Maryland
Good News Update: June 6, 2016
The UAB Center for Palliative and Supportive Care packed the National Alumni Society House on Tuesday for a special “Legacy Celebration” event commemorating the ten-year anniversary of the inpatient Palliative Care and Comfort Unit, honoring their graduating fellows, announcing a new endowed chair position, and unveiling the new Southeast Institute for Innovation in Palliative and Supportive Care. Fourteen “Legacy Builders” were also recognized for their roles in promoting the CPSC mission.

Good News Update: May 30, 2016
The Department of Medicine swept the SOM Dean’s Excellence Awards this year, earning five of 11 awards in the categories of teaching, diversity enhancement, mentoring, research, and service.
- F. Stanford Massie Jr., MD, professor of Medicine in the Division of General Internal Medicine, is the senior faculty winner of the Dean’s Excellence Award for Teaching.
- Latesha Elopre, MD, instructor of Medicine in the Division of Infectious Diseases, is a junior faculty winner of the Dean’s Excellence Award in Diversity Enhancement.
- Jennifer Pollock, PhD, professor of Medicine in the Division of Nephrology and co-director of the Cardio-Renal Physiology and Medicine Program, is a senior faculty winner of the Dean’s Excellence Award for Mentoring.
- J. Edwin Blalock, PhD, professor of Medicine in the Division of Pulmonary, Allergy and Critical Care Medicine, is a dual senior faculty winner of the Dean’s Excellence Award in Research.
- Kierstin Kennedy, MD, MSHA, clinical assistant professor of Medicine in the UAB Hospitalist Service, is the junior faculty winner of the Dean’s Excellence Award in Service.
Good News Update: May 23, 2016
The residents kicked off their Annual Spring Party and Banquet with a champagne toast to those who were graduating the program. It was a time to celebrate their hard work and commitment to patient care, as well as a time to recognize residents who have excelled in research, global health, resident teaching, overall attitude, and clinical excellence.

Good News Update: May 16, 2016
The Tinsley Harrison Internal Medicine Residency Program reached beyond the campus into the community with a presentation to local fifth graders at Hueytown Elementary School last week. Drs. Karla Williams, Anezi Uzendu, and Keandrea Titer led a "Sugar Savvy" demonstration that encouraged kids to guess how many teaspoons of sugar were in common food items. The residents also helped the kids dream up “good food” restaurant ideas with menu items that both tasted good and were nutritious choices.
