A Home Run for FUN! Last Saturday, the Division of Pulmonary, Allergy, and Critical Care Medicine held its annual fall picnic at George Ward Park. The faculty won against the fellows (6-4) in a spirited softball showdown, and everyone enjoyed the festive family fun.

For the first time ever, Renal won Argus Award for Best MS1 Organ Module. This is a testament to the tremendous efforts of all three Co-Directors: Nephrologists Eric Judd, MD, and Vineeta Kumar, MD, and Mark Bevensee, PhD (Cell, Developmental, & Integrative Biology) as well as the enthusiastic involvement of the Division of Nephrology. According to Mona Fouad, MD (Director, Preventive Medicine) only 25 percent of American adults get the recommended amount of physical activity, and 29 percent don’t engage in any leisure-time physical activity at all. To address this public health problem, the UAB Minority Health & Health Disparities Research Center recently launched Parks Rx, a program where health care providers literally prescribe exercise for their patients and direct them to local parks and outdoor spaces to get moving.
