UAB has an exceptionally strong program in neuroscience research. The many diverse aspects of UAB Neuroscience are unified under the umbrella of the Comprehensive Neuroscience Center. Special programs of particular relevance to the Alzheimer's Disease Center include the Center for Neurodegeneration and Experimental Therapeutics (CNET), which conducts basic research in neurodegenerative disorders, and the Evelyn F. McKnight Brain Institute (one of only four such institutes in the U.S.), which is devoted to understanding age-related memory loss.
