Ashley Neyer, Director
Ashley Neyer is the Director for the Office of Education Abroad. Prior to joining UAB, Ashley served in various capacities within International Programs at Missouri State University, most notably 6 years within the Office of Study Away Programs. Ashley graduated from Missouri State in 2011 with her B.S. in Administrative Management, Minor in Accounting and again in 2013 with her MBA.

Ashley's love for travel began at a young age when her family drove a motorhome from Kansas to Washington DC. Her curiosity for all things international continued to grow as she discovered more of the United States and wondered what was beyond the yellow brick road. Her adventures abroad began spring 2010 when she studied at Edinburgh Napier University in Scotland. The education abroad experience impacted her in ways she would’ve never imagined! Ever since then, Ashley has visited 19 countries, including most of Europe, Australia, and the Caribbean. Ashley hopes to expand her list to every continent.
When she’s not working, rest assured you’re likely to find Ashley hunting for great flight deals to spark a new adventure. Ashley enjoys traveling, learning about other cultures, and sharing this passion with students.
As the Director, Ashley collaborates with faculty to develop education abroad programming, develops and refines education abroad processes and policies to align with the Forum’s guidelines, and serves as the Education Abroad risk management key contact.
Mason Simmons, Passport Agent
Mason Simmons is the Office Services Specialist for the Passport Office. She graduated from UAB with a bachelor’s in psychology and a minor in Chinese language in 2021. Prior to joining the Passport Office, Mason served in the Office of Education Abroad as a Peer Ambassador, assisting students with their study abroad applications. While still a student, she studied abroad in Chengdu, China for fall 2019 and Montevideo, Uruguay for spring 2020.

When it comes to time-off, Mason enjoys exploring new local coffee shops, taking long drives with the top down, and singing off-key karaoke. On sunny days and long weekends, you can find her at the beach breathing in the salt air or at the park enjoying a picnic. She looks forward to being able to help keep travel alive working with the Education Abroad team and Birmingham community.
