  • Ph.D., Mississippi State University, Aerospace/Aeronautical and Astronautical Engineering

Dr. Koomullil received his doctoral degree in Aerospace Engineering from Mississippi State University (MSU) in 1997. Before joining UAB, he served as an Assistant Research Professor at the NSF Engineering Research Center (ERC) at MSU and as Berkeley Research Associate at the Naval Research Laboratory, Washington, DC. He has over 25 years of experience in computational fluid dynamics (CFD), moving body simulations, pollutant transport simulations, overset mesh technology, and biomedical flow modeling. He has taught various courses in fluid mechanics, CFD, computer aided engineering, and numerical methods.

In administrative roles, he has served as the Undergraduate Program Director, Graduate Program Director, and Mechanical Engineering Honors Program Director. Dr. Koomullil has received several research projects from various government agencies (such as NASA, DoD, and NIH) and industry, and published articles in leading academic journals. He has also served as reviewer for prestigious journal such as AIAA Journal and served as an Editor of special edition of Electronic Journal of Differential Equations.
