Manoj K Mahapatra is an Assistant Professor in the department of Materials Science and Engineering since Fall 2015. He was an Assistant Research Professor at the University of Connecticut prior to joining UAB. He was a scientist for two years in the Defense Metallurgical Research Laboratory (DMRL), India working in the area of body armor.

Dr. Mahapatra’s research encompasses the structure-processing-property of ceramic and glass materials for energy and high temperature applications. His research focuses on low-cost processing of metallic and ceramic coatings, functional ceramics and glasses, and mechanistic understanding of materials degradation processes and prevention strategies.
