Apply opens a pdfUAB's Collat CampBIZ is an exciting week-long, business-focused summer day camp held in the Collat School of Business for Birmingham-area high school students. Campers participate in interactive, fun workshops designed to engage and educate them in a safe learning environment. They'll meet new friends while receiving an introduction to business as a career. Lunch is provided each day, and every camper receives commemorative gifts.

How to Apply
A UAB faculty development grant funds just 20 select spots at the camp. Interested high school students are encouraged to apply early by completing the application and submitting it with a writing sample to Alicia Clavell McCall (
Sample Schedule
9:00 a.m. - 9:50 a.m. Funny Business: Improv with local comedians. Students will play icebreakers and work in teams to build a fun foundation for confidence.
10:00 a.m. - 11:15 a.m. School Scavenger Hunt: Students get to know one another and the UAB Collat School of Business building with a scavenger hunt.
11:45 a.m. - 12:45 p.m. Catered Lunch & Presentation on Modern Day Manners
1:00 p.m. - 2:30 p.m. Workshop: Business and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance. Motorcycle enthusiast and professor will lead students in an informatic motorcycle exercise as they learn through tangible gamification that information drives business decisions.
2:30 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. — Rest and Recap w/ Director. | Introduction to Poster Presentations.
Breaks: During break time, students may enjoy snacks and camaraderie in The Board Room with icebreaker board games.
Camp Director
Alicia Clavell McCall is a senior instructor at the Collat School of Business and eager to engage Birmingham business students at CampBIZ! With more than two decades of experience in the communications industry, she specializes in writing, editing for grammar and mechanics, and communicating with business professionals. Clavell McCall is an award-winning instructor with proven teaching effectiveness at multiple educational institutions. Outside of work, she publishes and edits a free online literary journal – Southern Women’s Review – and advocates for literacy through organizations such as Alabama State Poetry Society (ASPS). She also coordinates UAB's Ada Long Creative Writing Workshop for high school students.
