The UAB Center for Economic Education (CEE) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization within the UAB Collat School of Business that focuses on the economic education of students from kindergarten through high school. Affiliated with the Alabama Council on Economic Education opens a new website (ACEE) and accredited at the national level by the Council on Economic Education opens a new website, the UAB CEE has been in operation for over thirty years.
We deliver the fourth “R” – a real-world understanding of how to build fruitful lives – to Alabama's young people. Our goal is to reach and teach every child in Alabama to create a more informed citizenry capable of making better decisions as income earners, savers, investors, borrowers, voters, and participants in the global economy.
We do this by educating the educators: providing the curriculum tools, the pedagogical support, and the community of peers that instruct, inspire, and guide. We are proud to be part of a national network of affiliates – over 240 across the country.
Training for Teachers
Training for in-service teachers for professional development contact hours is provided by the CEE through an affiliation with the UAB Regional In-Service Center and ACEE.
Economics for Educators, a college credit course, is offered each spring semester for pre-service teachers pursuing social studies certification.
Student Programs
The Alabama Economics Challenge opens a new website encourages students to apply their economic knowledge as they work in teams to win state, regional and national awards. Since 2004, the UAB CEE has conducted the Alabama Economics Challenge Championship on the UAB campus.
